Birds Seen And Heard in Heswall Dales

If you walk round Heswall Dales regularly throughout the year, looking around and above you, you have a good chance of seeing or hearing well over 50 different species of bird.

Spring and summer is when birds are most active visible and audible. Resident birds such as Blackbird, Robin, Song Thrush, Wren, Chaffinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit and Coal Tit are joined by visiting warblers such as Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Whitethroat and Willow Warbler. You can see pictures of them by selecting HERE and HERE for the resident birds and HERE for the visitors. If you then select a bird picture you should then hear a short example of its song. Birds, usually the male, sing in spring to establish/retain territory and/or attract a mate. Robins sing all year round. The female even sings in winter to establish territory.

The Your Visit web page (HERE) gives a season-by-season guide to flora and fauna on the Dales. Although birds make less sound in winter, the lack of leaves on trees make them much more visible. Where are the best places to look for birds?
